●The sleeper express "Hamanasu" is a sleeper express train operated by JR Hokkaido that ran from Aomori to Sapporo via the Seikan Tunnel. It was introduced when the Seikan Tunnel opened in 1988, and was a popular train that combined cars with a variety of facilities, including B-class sleeper cars, carpeted cars, and dream cars (reclining seat cars) with reserved and unreserved seats, but was retired when the Hokkaido Shinkansen opened in March 2016.
The basic train consisted of a seven-car formation consisting of five 14-series seating cars and two sleeper cars, but during busy periods, it was also seen being added to form a maximum of 12 cars.
