The Kiha 283 series is a pendulum-type express diesel railcar that debuted in 1997 as the "Super Ozora" (Sapporo to Kushiro). It boasts a maximum commercial speed of 130 km/h, and has significantly shortened the travel time between Sapporo and Kushiro from the previous 4 hours 25 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes. From March 2023, it will begin operation as the Sekihoku Main Line's limited express "Okhotsk" (Sapporo to Abashiri) and "Daisetsu" (Asahikawa to Abashiri), and new illustrations related to local governments along the line have been affixed to the side of the leading car. When running as "Okhotsk and Daisetsu", the pendulum mechanism is not used and the train is active in 3-4 car formations.
Just like the real train, the car body does not tilt when passing through curves, so you can enjoy realistic running scenes with a 3-4 car formation. The illustrations of local governments along the line on the side of the leading car will reproduce "Asahikawa and Abashiri" for the 3-car set and "Engaru, Kitami, and Bihoro" for the 4-car set.
